At the graduation ceremony on January 26, the sisters of the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery were awarded the certificates of completion of the theological courses. Alexei V. Diakonov, Instructor of the Nizhny Novgorod Theological Seminary, took part in the event. 

On January 29, 2019, the Inter-departmental commission on education of the monastics at the Education Committee of the Russian Orthodox Church accredited the monastery’s theological courses. Following their review, the commission issued the certificates to all of the sisters who completed the training during the last few years. 

The courses operate at the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery since 2008. The instructors from the Nizhny Novgorod Theological Seminary give lectures there. The course program allows the sisters of the monastery to study the Holy Scriptures, the teachings of the faith, history of the Church, the Church Typikon and liturgics, church art, Old-Slavonic language, patristics, history of monasticism and asceticism. 

His Holiness the Patriarch has repeatedly spoken about the benefits of obtaining at least the basic level of theological education by the monastics. This proposal was secured in the decision of the Bishops’ Council of 2011 “About the questions of the internal affairs and external activities of the Russian Orthodox Church” and in the “Regulation about monasteries and the monastics” (2017).
