The first restored village church of Diveyevo
The restoration of church life in Diveyevo began with the consecration of a wooden church named for the Kazan icon of the Mother of God. The consecration took place on Lazarus Sunday on April 22, 1989. Before consecration, an icon of Venerable Seraphim of Sarov with the inserted half-mantle was carried inside the church. Donated by Metropolitan (an Archbishop at that time) Nicholas, the holy elder's icon portrays him in full figure. This image is currently on display at Transfiguration Cathedral.

Before the revolution, the one-story building housing the Kazan Church today was the monastery's candle shop. Before the monastery was dissolved, Hegumenia Alexandra lived there followed by the Diveyevo monastery's priest Protopresbyter John (Smirnov). With the blessing of His Grace Nicholas, the house was purchased from one of Father John's daughters. It was available for sale for over 14 years awaiting purchase by any Orthodox faithful. The churchwarden Klavdia Grigoryevna asked the ruling archpastor Nicholas (Kutepov) for advice: "They are selling the house. Should we buy it?" He responded: "Buy anything, even if it is only its bath house."

The house was disassembled and moved to the outskirts of Diveyevo next to the Kazan spring. In the summer of 1989, a belfry was built near the church.
