I have been visiting Diveyevo, a wondrous and holy place in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, for the last 10 years. I pray I can do many more trips there. This is where, in a small village 60 km from Arzamas, the Holy Trinity Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery is located.

Diveyevo is a land of wonders, the fourth abode of the Mother of God on earth. The trips I make to Diveyevo are like a breath of fresh air, a chance to cleanse the soul and to see all the ups and downs of life from a different perspective.

By river boat:
Passengers arrive at the Nizhny Novgorod's river boat station located in the historic part of the city. A car transfer to Diveyevo has to be booked in advance.
By train:
Arzamas, the rail hub closest to Diveyevo, is the easiest rail-to-road connection link between Diveyevo and Moscow and has two train stations (Arzamas-1 and Arzamas-2, with the latter being the most convenient among the two for a foreign visitor). A few long-distance trains pass through Arzamas-2, and the overnight train ride is the most popular choice among the pilgrims to Diveyevo.

The RZD Holding (rzd.ru), Russia's railroad company, offers a "train-to-bus" fare to Diveyevo via Arzamas. If needed, the shuttle bus fare between Diveyevo and Arzamas-2 rail station may be purchased at rzd.ru or at a ticket counter together with the railroad ticket to Arzamas. Besides, once in Arzamas, the bus fare may also be purchased directly from the bus driver.

Shuttle buses to Diveyevo depart Arzamas-2 train station at 7:30 am and return to the station in the evening, in time for the pilgrims to take the overnight trains back to Moscow.

Taking a speed train from Moscow to Nizhny Novgorod is another train+car option of getting to Diveyevo. The speed train and a car transfer from Nizhny Novgorod to Diveyevo option will take a total of 8 hours in travel time.

Taking a bus tour:
Pilgrim service companies, parishes from all over Russia and from abroad organize bus tours to Seraphim-Diveyevo Monastery.
By car:
From Moscow, the most common route to Diveyevo will be going east and southeast via Orekhovo-Zuyevo, bypassing Vladimir and then through Murom. Some may prefer a longer, but less congested, exit from Moscow via a southern toll road of Kashirskoye Shosse to Mikhnevo, then via Spas-Klepiki, Kasimov and Kulebaki to Diveyevo.

Regardless what highway a traveler chooses to get out of Moscow, exiting Moscow and sitting in traffic will take a big chunk of the pilgrim's time. On average, it will take at least 8 hours to get to Diveyevo.

Travelling from the southern regions of Russia, the route to Diveyevo will go either via Ryazan, Shatsk, Sasovo, and Yermish, or via Saransk, Lukoyanov, Shatki, and Lesogorsk.

Travelling from the east and going from Samara, for example, the route will pass Ulyanovsk, or via Saransk, if travelling from Penza.
The monastery is clearly visible upon approaching Diveyevo. All monastery gates have guards on duty and they will be able to guide the pilgrims and offer basic information. Any questions regarding hotels, dining options, or touring the monastery may be directed to the Pilgrim Center (a two-story yellow building to the left from the main monastery gates next to Our Lady of Kazan Cathedral).

Time reserved for our stay in Diveyevo went by too soon. Regrettably, it was time to leave. Yet still, our memories and the effect Diveyevo had on our hearts and our souls will brighten our sadness with joy. Our tour guide took us to Nizhny Novgorod where we boarded our trains and returned to our homes in the various parts of the country.

Holy Diveyevo, a one-of-a-kind place, is full of light, goodness, and innocence. It was my first visit there but I have already set my dreams on coming back again.

The Orthodox faithful, willing to take a break from the daily cares and put the trivialities of life aside, if only for a moment, will not find a better place to be with God than Diveyevo. It is the best medicine for the soul.
