Wall painting restoration at Our Lady of Kazan Cathedral

The Kazan Cathedral’s wall paintings are currently under restoration.

Work has begun on September 24. The restorers first set about to restore the paintings of the side chapel to Holy Protomartyr and Archdeacon Stephen, as well as the central nave between the chapels to St. Nicholas and St. Stephen.

Work is concentrated on the removal of grime and restoration of wall paintwork. During the final stage of the restoration process, wall paintings will be finished with a layer of protective varnish.

The restoration work is planned to be completed by the end of January 2021.
