“Come, Comforter, the Holy Spirit, and dwell in us”

“By the Holy Spirit, all souls are enlivened and exalted in purity”: it is the All-Holy Spirit that we glorify today.

Apart from the feast in honor of the Holy and Life-Giving Trinity, the Church determined to hold another day for a particular worship of the Spirit the Comforter thus testifying the joy and great significance of such an event as the Descent of the Holy Spirit.

On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit revealed Himself to the world in the tangible and visible manner coming down from heaven with the mighty sound of the rushing wind and resting on the heads of the apostles in the form of tongues of fire. Other members of the church of Christ are not left without His grace. The Holy Spirit is imparted on to every Christian through repentance, baptism, and other sacraments. The Comforter Spirit has made the saints out of the countless number of people who pleased God, glorifying them through the miracles and the uncorrupt relics. The Holy Spirit also contributes to the salvation of all of us until this very day. We call upon Him in our prayers daily, for we know that, without the gracious help of the Holy Spirit, we cannot gain spiritual awakening.

The upper left side chapel of the Annunciation Cathedral of the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery was consecrated in honor of the Holy Spirit. The consecration of the chapel took place in 2019 and it is already a third celebration of the patronal feast day there. Yesterday evening, on the eve of the feast, Lesser Vespers with litya and polyeleos services were celebrated in the Holy Spirit side chapel, followed on the feast day by the paraklesis with the water blessing prayer service and the Divine Liturgy.

The divine services on this day were also held in the Trinity Cathedral and the Dormition Church of the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery. Following the late-morning Divine Liturgy, as is customary for the Diveyevo monastery on the particularly festive days, there was a procession around the holy Kanavka. The joyous procession was accompanied by the festive bell ringing. The clergymen of the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery, the sisters and pilgrims glorified the Holy Trinity with the words of the festive troparion: “Blessed are You O Christ Our God. You have revealed the fishermen as most wise by sending down upon them the Holy Spirit. Through them, You drew the world into Your net. O Lover of Man, Glory to You!”
