On the eve of the feast of the Ascension of the Lord, Metropolitan Georgiy of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas consecrated the church in honor of the “Life-Giving Spring” Icon of the Mother of God in the Holy Dormition Sarov Pustyn monastery.

Hegumenia Sergia of the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery prayed at the consecration of the church and the first Divine Liturgy.

In his hierarchical address following the service, the head of the Nizhny Novgorod Metropolis noted, “Twenty years ago, when I first began my archpastoral ministry in the land of Nizhny Novgorod, not much has been left from the Sarov that could remind of an old monastery. Its grounds were taken by all kinds of offices and organizations and only one church to the Venerable Seraphim of Sarov still stood there, albeit without crosses on the domes.

At the time, it was hard to believe that it would be possible to revive the monastery. But nowadays, we see how the newly restored monastery becomes more beautiful and spiritual life flourishes here once again. We are not only witnesses of this revival, but we apply a great effort so that, with God’s help, the monastic life can once again flourish here.

The Sarov Pustyn monastery has been famous for the spiritual exploits of the Venerable Seraphim of Sarov. However, not only this saint, but many other ascetics of piety struggled and sanctified its land with prayer and spiritual deeds to the glory of God. So, it is the great joy for all of us to stand within the walls of this ages-old monastery on the day of consecration of the church where its history has begun.

In this church, we venerate the fountain of grace of the Holy Spirit, this is where we heal our souls, and quench our thirst to be with the Lord.”
