The birthday of Schemanun Margarita (Lakhtionova)

The Diveyevo monastery prayerfully remembered Schemanun Margarita (Lakhtionova) on today’s feast honoring Venerable Sergius of Radonezh. It is the 121st anniversary of her birthday.

Schemanun Margarita (secular name Euphrosinia Fominichna Lakhtionova) began the life of a monastic at the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery at the beginning of the 20th monastery. She carried various obediences as a calf-woman, prosphora baker, Our Lady of Tikhvin Church’s churchwoman, and bell ringer.

Mother Margarita lived to see the restoration of life in the Diveyevo monastery and was able to hand over the spirit, rules, and old traditions of the monastery carefully preserved and upheld by the elders who stayed in the village of Diveyevo after the dispersion of nuns in 1927.

Following the late-morning liturgy, Rev. Fr Sergiy Eriskin, the monastery’s priest, served litya at the gravesite of Schemanun Margarita located behind the Trinity Cathedral’s altar.
