Mikhail Vasilyevich Manturov’s remembrance day

Mikhail Vasilyevich Manturov, the beloved disciple of Batiushka Seraphim, reposed in the Lord on July 20, 1858. He was a brother of Venerable Elena of Diveyevo, the caretaker and benefactor of the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery. Batiushka lovingly and endearingly called him Mishenka and took care of all things in Diveyevo through him.

On his commemoration day, remembrance prayers were heard in the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery’s Kazan Cathedral during the parastas service with Divine Liturgy, whereas the panikhida was served at the side chapel to Holy Archangel Michael.

In 1858, on the eve of the feast to Our Lady of Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, Mikhail Vasilyevich ordered to serve a liturgy at the Nativity Church he helped to build and he partook of the Holy Mysteries. After liturgy, he addressed the sisters helping at church and retold some of the instructions left by Batiushka Seraphim thus greatly surprising them. When he returned home in a copmany of Priest Peter Sofiysky, the celebrant at the liturgy who happened to be married to Manturov’s goddaughter, Mikhail Vasilyevich urged his wife to set out a dinner for them: “If you don’t make haste, you may regret it later; it can be too late if you don’t hurry up!” Mikhail Vasilyevich invited Fr. Peter outside for a stroll in the garden. Taking a few steps, he suddenly felt weak, took a seat at the bench, and instantly gave up his pure and righteous soul to God.

Like Baitushka Seraphim had foretold before, Manturov was buried to the left from the Nativity Churches. In 2009, new side chapels were added there, so the remains of Mikhail Vasilyevich are now resting in the crypt beneath the altar of the northern side chapel of the Church to the Nativity of the Mother of God dedicated to Holy Archangel Michael, his heavenly patron.
