Hegumenia Sergiya’s Name Day

Hegumenia Sergiya, the abbess of the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery, celebrates her Name Day on the feast day of the uncovering of precious relics of Venerable Sergius of Radonezh.

She was given the name of Venerable Sergius at tonsure first as a nun and then during the Lesser Schema tonsure by Hegumenia Magdalina, the now deceased abbess of the Holy Trinity St. Sergius monastery in Riga.

The hegumen of Radonezh accompanied matuska Hegumenia throughout her life. Her childhood and youth were spent under the omophorion of the Trinity St. Sergius Lavra and she began her life a nun at the St. Sergius monastery in Riga.

Matushka hegumenia’s name day is special to all sisters of the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery. At the end of the office of Panagia with the procession, they gathered at the Nativity of the Mother of God Church. In anticipation of the arrival of their abbess from the Sergiyevsky skete where she prayed during Vigil and Divine Liturgy services, they sang the akathist to Venerable Sergius of Radonezh.

A touching meeting and the greeting of Hegumenia Sergiya took place at the entrance to the churches to the Natitivy. Accompanied by sisters, matushka venerated the relics of the Diveyevo saints seeking their intercession at her obedience of running the monastery.
