Transfiguration of the Lord

The Transfiguration of the Lord is the patronal feast of the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery. A full cycle of divine service was celebrated in the Transfiguration Cathedral, including the LIttle Vespers with the akathist, All-Night Vigil, paraklesis with the water-blessing prayer service, Divine Liturgy and the consecration of fruits. Metropolitan Georgiy of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas presided.

At the end of His earthly life, our Lord Jesus Christ revealed to His disciples that He was to suffer for people, to die on the cross and rise again from the dead. Then He brought His three closest disciples – Peter, James and John – to Mount Tabor and was transfigured before them: His face shone brightly and His clothes became white as snow. It was important for the Lord to reveal His Divine greatness and to strengthen the faith of the disciples before His future sufferings on the cross.

After the intercessory prayer, the head of the Nizhny Novgorod Metropolitanate consecrated the fruits of the new harvest. Traditionally, at the end of the Divine Liturgy at the Transfiguration of the Lord, apples and other fruits are consecrated, which is why the feast is called the Savior of the Apples.

At the end of the late Divine Liturgy in the Transfiguration Cathedral, there was a procession along the Holy Kanavka.

Festive services were also held in the Trinity Cathedral and the Church of the Nativity of Christ.
