The Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery commemorated today the memory of the Venerable Martha of Diveyevo. An early-morning liturgy was celebrated in the Nativity of the Mother of God Church, where Venerable Martha rests with her holy relics. Festive services were also held in the Trinity and Transfiguration Cathedrals.

“An extraordinary young girl, unseen before,” was St. Martha’s characteristic by the author of the ‘Chronicle of the Seraphim-Diveyev Monastery.’ She became a spiritual companion of Venerable Seraphim. She was especially loved by the elder who confided to her a great number of spiritual revelations about the future of Diveyevo.

From an early age, Venerable Martha tempered herself in spiritual deeds surpassing in their severity even those sisters from the Diveyevo community known for their austerity of life, beginning with the very Superior nun Ksenia Mikhailovna. She was nourished by a never ceasing prayer, answering with heavenly meekness if only it was necessary.

She found rest from earthly labors on this day in 1829 aged 19.
