“Nika” Chamber Choir Performing Sacred Music in Diveyevo

A sacred music concert by the Chamber Choir “Nika” took place today at the Cultural Center of the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery

Choir “Nika” was founded 10 years ago at the Higher Theological Сourses of the Moscow Theological Academy. Matushka Victoria Vdovina is the Choir’s Artistic Director.

“It all started when I was invited to teach church singing at the Theological Courses. As we began learning the eight-tone system, we came to practice singing at the church services and our repertoire expanded over time. Our choir members had no musical education but they had great appetite for being part of the church service. We are an amateur group and we love church singing.”

Matushka’s husband, Protopresbyter Tarasiy Vdovin, also sings in the choir. He serves at the Dormition of the Mother of God church at Gorodok in Zvenigorod, at the Metochion Church of the St. Sava Storozevsky men’s monastery.

The concert held at the stage of the Seraphim-Diveyevo’s Cultural Center included choral pieces of sacred music by Russian and foreign composers. A number of pieces performed were dedicated to the Most Holy Mother of God.
