Remembering Metropolitan Nikolay

Alexey V. Dyakonov, the author of the book “Metropolitan Nikolay (Kutepov) of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas and Life on His Watch,” is an instructor at the Nizhny Novgorod Theological Seminary. He continues his work at the next volumes that will be dedicated to the life of the head of the Nizhny Novgorod Diocese in 1997-2001.

On January 25 and 26, Alexey Vladimirovich was at the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery. He wrote down the recollections of Metropolitan Nikolay by Hegumenia Sergiya and nun Ekaterina (Chernysheva), the monastery’s steward, the sisters, and workers of the Diveyevo monastery.

Met. Nikolay oversaw the rebirth of the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery, the recovery and restoration of its churches, admission of its first monastics, and first tonsures. His Eminence instructed the Diveyevo sisters in a fatherly fashion about the spiritual foundations of monasticism and nurtured them, still inexperienced, in their challenging lives as monastics.
