Christmas time at the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery

On the Eve of the Nativity of Christ, the period of Christmastime has begun. It lasts till the Eve of Epiphany, or the evening of Saturday, January 18. Traditionally, we share the joy over Christ’s Nativity by visiting friends and family during these holy days.

During the Christmastime, the sisters of the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery visit the sketes and greet its inhabitants singing the heartwarming Christmas songs. Each song is a story about this extraordinary event and praises those who were there on that silent night when the most joyous and significant news had arrived: the world’s Savior was born.

Today was the Kutuzovsky skete’s turn to receive guests. As is customary, the singing of praise was repaid by a common meal. Afterward, the sisters of the skete offered winter riddles for solving and everyone played festive games. For example, anyone left with a ball after the music stopped playing had to name some attributes of Christmas. The skete’s residents saw the sisters off to Diveyevo by burning the sparklers and ringing the bells.
