The Synaxis of Diveyevo saints

On June 27, the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery celebrates the Synaxis of Diveyevo saints consisting of seventeen pious ascetics. The list of their names is well known and includes Venerable Seraphim of Sarov, Matushka Alexandra, the founder of the Diveyevo community, Hieromartyr Seraphim (Chichagov), venerable and blessed mothers, new martyrs and confessors of the Diveyevo monastery, as well as the hieromartyrs among clergy who served here.

The feast was established with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Alexiy II of Moscow and All Russia in April 2008. The date was set on June 14/27 and it follows the day when the memory of Venerable Alexandra, the founder of the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery, is commemorated.

Metropolitan Georgiy of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas presided at the prayer service with the akathist to Venerable Seraphim and the Divine Liturgy celebrated at the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery on this day.

As required for a solemn festive celebration, a procession with the cross went around the Holy Kanavka.

At the end of the procession, His Eminence offered a homily and referred the faithful to the example of saints who knew wholeness and fullness of life in Christ and how to live it joyfully. “We need to learn how to thank God for every day of our lives,” said His Eminence Georgiy, “and how to preserve peace in our souls.”
