The Synaxis of Diveyevo saints

On June 27, the Orthodox Church celebrates the Synaxis of Diveyevo saints. We prayerfully remember Venerable Seraphim of Sarov, a spiritual father to first members of the Diveyevo community, its foundress Venerable Alexandra, the nuns glorified for their faith, hieromartyrs and new martyrs.

One of the side chapels of the Dormition Church was consecrated in honor of the Synaxis of Diveyevo saints. The liturgical cycle of daily services, including the Vespers, the Vigil, prayer service with water blessing and the Divine Liturgy were held there on this day.

Overall, five separate Liturgy services took place in the monastery on this day.

Metropolitan Georgiy of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas presided over the services at the Trinity Cathedral. During the liturgy, His Eminence ordained Subdeacon Kirill Vanyukov into deaconate.

At the end of the service, Metropolitan Georgiy, joined by Hegumenia Sergiya, the sisters and numerous faithful walked in the procession with the cross around the Holy Kanavka.

Following it, His Eminence addressed the faithful: “As we heard today at the Gospel reading, the Lord used to tell His disciples: “You are the light of the world.” With their holy lives and exploits, the saints of Diveyevo illumined the world around them. Let us pray that they intercede for us, in our overwhelming weaknesses, before the throne of God.”

During the service, Venerable Seraphim of Sarov’s icon, ordered for the Church of the Royal Passion-bearers in Sarov, was laid on the saint’s tomb. At the end of the sermon, Metropolitan Georgiy presented the icon with the saint’s relics and handed it over to Archpriest Alexander (Dolbunov), the dean of Sarov district.
