On March 10, the eve of Great Lent, Forgiveness Vespers took place at the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery. As customary for this service, the priests served its solemn first half wearing regular light-colored vestments. After singing “Turn not away Thy face from Thy child..,” they changed into dark Lenten garments and continued the service following Lenten order.
Once the Vespers was over, the monastery’s senior priest Protopresbyter Igor Pokrovsky asked forgiveness from the clergy, Mother Hegumenia, sisters and the faithful. Then, everyone venerated the monastery’s sacred objects: Venerable Seraphim’s relics, icon of the Savior and Kazan icon of the Mother of God. Next, they made prostrations and sought forgiveness of one another. Traditionally, this service brings all the sisters of the monastery together, as some of them come even from far-away sketes. They are here to seek forgiveness from Mother Hegumenia and ask her blessing for the beginning of Great Lent.
