Patronal Feast Services at the Cemetery Church
The Orthodox Church celebrates the feast of the icon of the Mother of God “Surety of Sinners.” Suretor means sponsor or someone who intercedes for sinners before God. The icon was known by this name because of its inscription: “I am the Surety of sinners for My Son.”
In 2007, the monastery’s cemetery church was consecrated after this holy image. Its name seems appropriate for we seek Her intercession as “Surety of Sinners” before the Savior for His mercy on the day of Last Judgment.
This wooden church with one altar was built in Russian style of the late 19th century. It was designed by architect Andrei B. Barabanov.
Yesterday evening and this morning, the church of “Surety of Sinners” held canonical services, including Great Compline and Matins, Vespers, Liturgy of Pre-Sanctified Gifts and Panikhida. Presbyter Vasily Nazarov officiated. Hegumenia of Seraphim-Diveyevo Monastery prayed at the services there.
