Patronal feast of the Arzamas metochion of the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery
The Smolensk Church of the Arzamas metochion of the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery celebrates its patronal feast: we commemorate the memory of Venerable Alexander of Svir and the Holy Righteous Prince Alexander Nevsky, the patron saints of the northern refectory side chapel of the church.
The transfer of the relics of the Righteous Prince Alexander Nevsky from Vladimir to St. Petersburg took place in 1724 at the command of Emperor Peter the Great. This day coincided with the day of the blessed repose of Venerable Alexander of Svir that followed in 1533.
The lives of these spiritual luminaries and valiant warriors of Christ, a prince and a humble monk, imbued with faithfulness to God, the creative, vibrant, and unselfish love for the people and Motherland, serve as worthy examples for all subsequent generations.
