Midfeast of Pentecost

The Midfeast is the middle term between the feasts of Pascha and Trinity Day, otherwise known as Pentecost.

The Midfeast received its name from the Gospel story about Jesus Christ when, on the third year of His preaching, He entered the Temple on the midst of the Old-Testament Feast of Tabernacles and taught. The Jews “marveled saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?” Beginning from the Divine teaching of the Lord, the middle of the feast became known as the feast day of the Church of Christ.

During the Week of the paralytic on the Feast of Mid-Pentecost, when we remember the blessing of the water by the Angel in the Pool of Bethesda and the Lord’s call for the feast of Tabernacles “…If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink,” the Church performs the Lesser Blessing of the water after liturgy beseeching the Lord “to quench those who hunger and thirst for righteousness.”
