Celebration to honor the “Reigning” Icon of the Most Holy Mother of God
On the day of the commemoration of the “Reigning” Icon of the Most Holy Mother of God, the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery celebrates the patronal feast of the house church of the monastic residential building inside the Holy Kanavka. On the eve of the feast, Rev.Fr. Sergiy Yeriskin, the clergyman of the monastery, celebrated Vespers, the Great Compline with litya and Polyeleos service, followed one the feast day by the Hours, Typica, Vespers and the Liturgy of Pre-Sanctified Gifts.
One hundred and six years ago on March 2/15, 1917, the day when the Emperor Nicholas Alexandrovich abdicated from the Russian throne, the wonderworking “Reigning” Icon of the Mother of God was found in the village of Kolomenskoye near Moscow.
Through the “Reigning” Icon of the Mother of God, the Lord revealed His mercy to our Motherland and pointed that the dominion over Russia is transferred to the Mother of God: the earthly tsar was gone, and the Queen of Heaven ascended the Russian throne.
Mother of God of the “Reigning” Icon holds the cross in Her hands as if it were an imperial scepter. In anticipation of the Sunday of the Veneration of the Cross, it reminds us that we are facing our own path to Calvary, but it also equally gives consolation that we will walk it with God’s help and intercession of the Most Holy Mother of God.
