Feast of the Icon of the Mother of God “Enthroned”

Metropolitan of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas Georgiy served Divine Liturgy at the monastery today. The service was dedicated to the “Enthroned” (or “Reigning”) icon of the Mother of God. Its celebration was moved to Saturday from March 15.

The “Enthroned” icon of the Mother of God appeared to Russian people on March 2/15, 1917, the day Emperor Nicholas II, future Royal Passion Bearer, abdicated the throne. A peasant woman Eudoxia Adrianova, a Pererva village resident, saw the same vision three times in her dream. It was about a long-lost image of the Mother of God located in the village of Kolomenskoye near Moscow. Through the discovery of Her image, the Queen of Heaven announced Her newly assumed heavenly protection over Russian people.

According to Diveyevo monastery’s rule for the Theotokos’ feast days, the office of Panagia with the procession was served after late-morning Liturgy.
