The feast of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God
Among many feasts, there are some truly special days in the church calendar year for the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery and its community. These are the feasts dedicated to the Mother of God.
The Queen of Heaven, an Advocate for each of us before the throne of God, is dear to all like no one else. As we know from the history of Diveyevo, the Most Holy Mother of God offers Her particular protection through this special icon.
Two churches at the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery are dedicated to the icon of Our Lady of Kazan, including a small wooden church at the Kazan spring and the monastery’s oldest cathedral built by matushka the head superior, the monastery’s founder.
Both churches held the Small Vespers services with the Akathist to the icon while the Trinity and Kazan cathedrals held the Vigils. On the day of the feast, the liturgies were served at four altars. The liturgy at the Kazan Cathedral was preceded by the water blessing prayer service and the Paraklesis.
The festive services concluded with the procession with the cross along the Holy Kanavka and the singing of the festive troparion.
