Consecration of the Annunciation Cathedral’s side altar to the feast of the Entrance of the Theotokos to the Temple

The third altar was consecrated at the monastery’s Annunciation cathedral. Despite it is still undergoing the interior decoration, its Guardian Angels stand on guard already keeping vigil over its consecrated altars.

On November 6, 2019, Metropolitan Georgiy of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas celebrated the rite of the Great Consecration. Bishop Alexiy of Solnechnogorsk, Abbot of the Moscow’s Danilov monastery and Vicar to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, and Bishop Porphyrius of Odintsovo, Abbot of the Solovetsky monastery and Vicar to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, concelebrated at the service.

His Eminence and Their Graces celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the newly consecrated altar.

The clergy of the Nizhny Novgorod Diocese and the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery took part in the service. Members of the Inter-Council Presence for issues regarding the life of the monasteries and monastics and members of the round-table discussion “Canonization of statesmen in the history of the Russian Orthodox Church,” organized by the Nizhny Novgorod Theological Seminary, prayerfully attended the service.

Presbyter Alexiy (Kurnosov), a clergyman of the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery, offered his homily before the Communion. It was devoted to Most Holy Mother of God for it is a day of celebration of Her icon “Joy of All Who Sorrows” with the new altar being dedicated to one of Her feasts.

Hegumenia Sergiya, the abbess of the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery, thanked the archpastors for their prayers that united all of those present under the vaults of the church dedicated to the Queen of Heaven.

In his pastoral address, the Metropolitan Georgiy of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas said that the day of the dedication of the Diveyevo’s new altar to the Entrance of the Theotokos, one of twelve major feasts, is blessed day. “The Entrance of the Theotokos to the Temple is a special feast for the monastics,” remarked His Eminence Georgiy. “A man is called to enter the church and dedicates his life to God the same way the parents brought the Mother of God to the temple two thousand years ago so that She would grow in spirit and faith into one true God.”

This feast is of great importance for the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery as the Venerable Seraphim of Sarov entered the Sarov monastery on this day of the feast of Entrance of the Mother of God to the Temple followed. Years later, his favorite spiritual daughter, Venerable Martha of Diveyevo, entered the Diveyevo on this day.
