Musical poem about Venerable Seraphim

On June 23, the musical poem “The Wonderworker: The Story About Seraphim of Sarov” was presented in the educational center of the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery. Ivan Rashavets (baritone), the award-winner of international voice competitions and choir member at St. Nicholas Church in Klenniki (Moscow) performed.

The poem is comprised of eleven pieces about the most important moments in the life of Seraphim of Sarov: miraculous healings, praying on a rock, his vow of silence, and visitations paid by the Mother of God to him. Poetic reflections of a modern man about life of the saint introduce each vocal piece.

The authors, composer Vladimir Bulyukin and poet Tatyana Shorygina, were present at the performance. Irina Filippova accompanied on the piano.

The premiere of this musical piece took place in 2014 in the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery. It was since performed in various auditoriums.

Prior to his work at this musical poem, Ivan neither heard much about Venerable Seraphim of Sarov nor visited the Diveyevo monastery. Over time, he grew intimately connected with the saint who helped to grow spiritually.
