Metropolitan Vikenty presided at Vigil Service in the Seraphim Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery

Today’s guest at the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery was Metropolitan Vikenty of Tashkent and Uzbekistan.

His Eminence presided at the Vigil Service in the Trinity Cathedral and his presence emphasized the solemnity of the service on this great holiday.

We remember the tragic event of execution and death of St. John the Forerunner. We commemorate his beheading and humiliation before and after death. His righteous head was taken to an unclean place, his body desecrated. We, as Christians, remember this event because his dreadful death at the time of a drunken ruler’s banquet didn’t signify the end of his righteous life. His great deed and death as a martyr make sense only in the perspective of eternal life just like anything we do in our life. St. John the Forerunner has entered the Kingdom of his God and to this day he emboldens us to keep courage and faith.
