The youth from the “Ushakov” navy groups visited Diveyevo

Young participants from “Ushakov” youth groups in Volgograd, Lugansk, Donetsk, Elets, Altay Mountains area and Moscow arrived in the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery on the day of commemoration of the Holy Righteous Admiral Theodore Ushakov. In the morning, they took part at the festive liturgy service held in the Sanaksary monastery where they partook of the Holy Communion. After lunch at the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery, they venerated the monastery’s holy relics and walked along the Holy Kanavka.

This movement originated in the town of Temnikovo in the wake of the glorification of Admiral Ushakov in 2001 but, even before that, there were independent groups of young people actively learning naval trade. After the saint’s canonization, the groups took upon his name and became known as the “Ushakov’s youth” and grew a following. The second group was organized in Nikolayev where Theodore Ushakov began his high-ranking service. Since then, the groups and teams of this spiritual and patriotic youth movement have been formed throughout Russia with the current-day followers in Ukraine, Belarus, and Bulgaria. They study the history of Russia and its navy and learn navigational skills.

This year’s Ushakov youth summer training camp will take place between July 27 and August 7 and travel from Moscow to Sasovo, Ulyanovsk, Russian Island, Karsun, Temnikov, Sanaksary monastery, Diveyevo, Arzamas and back to Moscow. The Belgorod Region’s regional administration, Belgorod’s Metropolitanate, Belgorod Region’s Department of Education, Union of Russian Writers, World Russian People’s Council, and Theodore Ushakov’s Center organized the training.
