Day of remembrance of Blessed Maria of Diveyevo

September 8 is the day of remembrance of Blessed Maria of Diveyevo. The relics of the holy saint rest at the Kazan Cathedral of the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery. On the day of the feast, the vigil service, liturgy and prayer service were served beside the saint’s relics.

Beginning from 1915, blessed elder Maria Ivanovna took up ascetic labors in the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery. The trials and tribulations of the revolutionary years in Russia have greatly increased the number of those who sought out guidance and prayerful intercession. The blessed elder’s gifts of prophecy and clairvoyance helped people to avoid danger and death and find the right way out of complicated circumstances.

Foreseeing the great turmoil of the Soviet rule, such as concentration camps, exile, and persecution for faith, Maria Ivanovna strengthened faith in sisters foretelling about the coming rebirth of the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery.

After the dissolution of the monastery, she settled down not far from Diveyevo at the village of Bolshoye Cherevatovo. She reposed there peacefully in the Lord on September 8, 1931.
