Feast of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian

On May 21, the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery celebrated the feast of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian.  The services prescribed by Typikon for the feast were held at the Trinity and Our Lady of Kazan Cathedrals.

The whole earthly path of the apostle was transfused with a single aspiration to stay in the presence of the Lord. From the moment of their meeting on the banks of the Lake of Gennesaret, the apostle followed Christ and never left His side. Standing next to the Most Holy Mother of God, he shed tears at the foot of Golgotha. It was in his care that the Savior had placed His Most Holy Mother saying: “Behold, thy mother!” (John 19:27). He preached the Gospel in many places and even had reached Rome despite the ongoing persecution by Nero there. He was tortured and sent to exile on the island of Patmos where guided by the Holy Spirit he authored the Book of Revelations (The Apocalypse).
